Dubai's threat to U.S. banks,

The news that the sovereign wealth fund of Dubai requested a postponement of billions of dollars of debt this week could pose a big problem for U.S. banks.
The state-run investment company, Dubai World, owes about $60 billion. It rang up much of that in a building boom that included the world's tallest skyscraper and the Palm Islands in the Persian Gulf, settlements shaped like palm trees.
According to CMA DataVision, which tracks credit markets, there's a 35.82% probability that Dubai will default on that debt.
New York-based Citigroup (
C, Fortune 500) has the most exposure to default risk at Dubai World, which a J.P. Morgan (JPM, Fortune 500) equity research note estimated at $1.9 billion. Citigroup declined to comment.
While other major banks in the United States are believed to have little direct exposure, the ripple effect could be more crippling, according to Richard Bove, a bank analyst with Rochdale Securities. There could be huge indirect exposure," he said. "One has to assume that U.S. banks will be hurt."
J.P. Morgan declined to comment, while Goldman Sachs (
GS, Fortune 500) and Bank of America (BAC, Fortune 500) were unavailable for immediate comment. Morgan Stanley (MS, Fortune 500) said a Dubai World default "would have have no material impact on its earnings."
Bove said the underlying problem is that there is a lot of uncertainty floating around. For example, there's little information available about counterparty derivatives, guarantees that transfer default risk from lenders to other financial institutions. And it's unknown how much of Dubai World's debt guarantee is held by U.S. banks.
And while UK banks, such as Standard Chartered, HSBC (
HBC), Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Barclays (BCS) are much more exposed to Dubai World, with a total of more than $30 billion in default risk according to J.P. Morgan's note, U.S. banks have extensive dealings with UK institutions. Those include trading and guaranteeing debt, which could translate into losses for U.S. banks.
There's also U.S. banks' interactions with their German counterparts. Dubai has loaned a lot of money to Eastern European nations, as has Germany. Any losses from defaults there could expose U.S. banks to some risk. Finally, there's the impact of already reeling commercial real estate markets worldwide.
"Dubai may have to unload some very prestigious properties at distressed prices, and this will drive the price of all commercial real estate lower," said Bove. "That would clearly be a problem for American banks."
Bove also posited that the problems at Dubai World could add weight to the growing sentiment that is already strong in the U.S. Congress about beefing up regulation.
"Congress is demanding that anyone connected to the U.S. financial system has to be regulated," he said.
Rattling bank stocks
Bank stocks are particularly vulnerable to a market turndown triggered by the Dubai crisis, said Peter Sorrentino, senior portfolio manager at Huntington Asset Advisors. He said the run-up this year has led to an overvalued stock market.
"We had been looking for something to trigger a correction," he said. "This could be that catalyst."
It would add to a market already made volatile, especially with the approach of the end of the tax season for mutual funds, which has put a lot of money in motion. The impact could fall heaviest on the financial sector.
Sorrentino added that the risk of default will put a damper on all commercial credit markets. Institutions may have to set aside more reserve funds to cover default risk, leaving less cash to lend out, and, in general, take a more cautious underwriting approach.

The launch of Wikipedia, emergence of the iPhone and the election of U.S. President Barack Obama were among the 10 most influential moments on the Internet in the past decade, according to the annual Webby awards.
Other events singled out by the New York-based International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, which has presented the annual Webby awards since 1996, were the
Iranian election in 2009 when protests demonstrated the power of Twitter and other social network in reshaping democracy.
"The Internet is the story of the decade because it was the catalyst for change in not just every aspect of our everyday lives, but in everything from commerce and communication to politics and pop culture," said David-Michel Davies, the executive director of The Webby Awards, in a statement.
"The recurring theme among all of the milestones on our list is the Internet's capacity to circumvent old systems and put more power into the hands of ordinary people."
Here is the Webby's list of the 10 most influential Internet moments of the decade:
Craigslist, the free classifieds site, expands outside San Francisco in 2000, impacting newspaper publishers everywhere
Google AdWords launched in 2000 allowing advertisers to target their customers with laser-sharp precision
Wikipedia, the free open-source encyclopaedia, launches in 2001 and today boasts more than 14 million articles in 271 different languages and bringing strangers together on projects

U.S. presidential campaign in 2008 in which the Internet changed every facet of the way campaigns are run
Iranian election protests in 2009 when Twitter proved vital in organising demonstrations and as a protest too.

Tiger Woods Hurt In Car Crash,

The world's top golfer Tiger Woods has been treated in hospital after being hurt in a car accident outside his home in FloridaThe superstar crashed his 2009 Cadillac sport utility vehicle in Isleworth near Orlando in the early hours.
It happened after he pulled out of his driveway at 2:25am (local time), authorities said.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Woods started driving along the road when his car struck a fire hydrant and then hit a tree.
A local police chief said Woods' wife used a golf club to smash out the back window and help get the world's No 1 golfer out of the vehicle.
Daniel Saylor said officers found the 33-year-old PGA star lying in the street with his wife, Elin, hovering over him.
She told officers she was in the house when she heard the accident and "came out and broke the back window with a golf club."
Woods had lacerations to his upper and lower lips, and he had blood in his mouth, Saylor said
Woods was taken to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee following the incident.
Early reports said the star had been seriously injured in the crash.
But later it emerged he had only suffered cuts to his face and was released from hospital after treatment.
A joint statement from the hospital and Woods' office said: "He was admitted, treated and released in good condition" after being in a "minor" car crash.
The highway patrol said the crash was still under investigation, and charges were pending. But it added that the crash was not alcohol-related.
The airbags in the car did not deploy during the accident because he was travelling so slowly, police said.
Airbags typically do not open if a vehicle is travelling at less than 33mph.
Woods, who is married with two children, is is one of the world's richest sportsmen and by far the biggest draw on the PGA tour.He made a triumphant comeback on the tour this year after missing much of the 2008 season following reconstructive knee surgery.
He was operated on shortly after clinching his 14th major title, the 2008 US Open.
He did not win a major title this year but had a successful year capped by winning the season-long FedEx Cup.
Woods' website said he is due to start the campaign for his fifth Chevron World Challenge title on Tuesday.
The tournament's host, he won the event in 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2007 but missed last year's competition while recovering from his knee op.

The Case for Water Disclosure,

This report details the rationale for the Carbon Disclosure Project's new program, the CDP Water Disclosure, a new initiative that will help institutional investors better understand the business risks and opportunities associated with water scarcity and other water-related issues by increasing the availability of high quality business information on this critical issue.
CDP Water Disclosure will provide a system for businesses to report their use of water and their exposure to changing patterns of water availability. Companies face risks such as lack of water impacting agricultural and manufacturing processes and the threat of regulation increasing prices and limiting the volume of water available to them. It is a vital tool for investors and businesses to be able to evaluate companies’ ability to operate successfully in a water-constrained world.
The United Nations forecasts that by 2030 almost half of the world population will live in areas facing water stress or water scarcity. Less than 1 percent of the world’s water is easily accessible fresh water and the effects of climate change, increasing population, urbanisation, per capita demand, and pollution damage to supplies will put even greater pressure on these limited resources.
CDP, an independent not-for-profit organisation, has gathered primary corporate climate change information from thousands of businesses around the world so that it can be incorporated into business and policy decision making. With the launch of CDP Water Disclosure it is using the same established system in order to tackle the increasingly vital issue of water scarcity.

Flatulent pig sparks gas leak scare,

A suspected gas leak at an Australian farm, which led to 15 firemen in two fire engines to rush to the scene, turned out to be the work of a flatulent pig.The farmer in Axedale, a town in Victoria in the south-east of the country, called the emergency services after believing he had smelled gas.
But when the fire crews arrived, they found the real culprit – a 260lb sow the family's children kept as a pet.
Fire captain Peter Harkins said: "When we got there, as we drove up the driveway, there was this huge sow, about a 120-odd kilo (265-pound) sow, and it was very obvious where the gas was coming from.
“We could not only smell it, but we heard it and it was quite funny."
He added: "She got very excited when two trucks and 15 firies turned up and she squealed and farted and squealed and farted.
"I haven't heard too many pigs fart but I would describe it as very full-on."
However, despite the false alarm, Mr Harkins said the farmer had done the right thing by calling 000 (the Australian equivalent of 999). He told
The Melbourne Herald Sun: "It's all bottled gas up here and a leaking cylinder could pose a major fire risk.
"It was because we took it so seriously that 15 volunteers still managed to attend the call out at 10.30 on Tuesday night

Web Hosting Control Panels,

A web hosting control panel is an online interface provided by the hosting company for the configuration, maintenance and monitoring of a website. Web hosting control panels usually include these modules:
- Web site visitor statistics- Available and consumed web space and transfer (bandwidth).- Creation and configuration of databases, ftp accounts, email accounts, subdomains, domains, etc.- Access control for (parts of) the web site- Dozens of other modules depending of control panel used
Popular control panels are:
- CPanel: Probably the most popular web hosting control panel. Many features, can be overwhelming.- Plesk: Similar to CPanel, almost as popular.- DirectAdmin: Less features as the two mentioned before, but also popular, and might be easier to maintain for a beginner.- Webmin: Free alternative, suited for maintaining a server with a single web hosting client.
Using the command line instead of a control panel:
- A web server (and - if a shell account is available - a web hosting account) can be configured and maintained without the use of a control panel. But even experienced webmasters will often prefer to use a control panel because it makes the day-to-day tasks of running a web site easier. No need to remember every single command. Using the command line for certain tasks is still possible even if a control panel is installed and running.
Which control panel to choose:
- I personally use webmin because I usually run servers rather than web hosting accounts. If I were to use a web hosting account my choice would be CPanel or DirectAdmin. CPanel because it is the most popular and there is a feature for almost every task. DirectAdmin because it is smaller and neater and also quite popular. I mention “popular” so often because I like to learn software only if it is sure to stay around. Also, if you use a “popular” control panel you are sure to easily find another host with the same panel when you’re changing your hosting provider which is something you’re going to do sooner or later. Finally, “popular” control panels are popular for a reason, many web hosting customers have voted with their feet. If you’re going to build your own web hosting company, CPanel would probably be the right choice. It will be easier to sell the company later on.

Online marketing migration,

The economic recovery is set to bring about a significant rise in online marketing spend, a new study has indicated.According to research conducted by the European Interactive Advertising Association, 94 per cent of professionals expect investment levels to increase in areas such as email marketing.Marketers predict a 7.6 per cent year-on-year rise in online advertising spend in 2010, with a 15 per cent increase expected for 2011.EIAA reports that email marketing has risen in popularity during the second half of 2009, with 61 per cent of interviewees investing in this area.Behavioural targeting, advertising networks and affiliate marketing have all been major growth areas, the study claimed.Earlier this month, Curt Bloom, president of smartFocus International, described email as a non-intrusive channel that can be highly tailored to user demands.Firms will continue to shift to online advertising channels during 2010, one industry expert has claimed.According to Tim Norman, sales director at SDL Tridion, the accountability of email marketing messages and HTML email newsletters helps to explain their popularity. He told UTalkMarketing that it is easier to measure click-through rates and website visits than when offline adverts are used.In addition, Mr Norman said firms will concentrate more on ensuring their websites match their brand quality – with the use of images to be monitored more closely in particular. "The industry is moving at an ever-increasing pace - there will be a hunger to discover new and exciting things to attract, engage and convert consumers," he added.According to research conducted by the European Interactive Advertising Association, 94 per cent of marketers expect online spend to increase over the coming year.Email marketing is continuing to thrive because of its flexibility, accountability and ability to drive revenue, one expert has claimed.According to Alison Fennah, executive director of the European Interactive Advertising Association, the recession has made it all the more important for firms to use their marketing budgets wisely. She suggested that since online advertising has "an ability to offer brands a robust return on investment", it can be a valuable asset.Ms Fennah commented: "Online advertising is further consolidating its position as the medium of choice for marketers across Europe. "Marketers still seek innovation, with new formats such as mobile evolving and helping interactive media to emerge strongly as we look forward to the upturn." Writing for DMNews.com, Douglas Quenqua recently claimed that the majority of firms are aware of the benefits of email marketing and HTML email newsletters.Firms will continue to shift to online advertising channels during 2010, one industry expert has claimed.According to Tim Norman, sales director at SDL Tridion, the accountability of email marketing messages and HTML email newsletters helps to explain their popularity. He told UTalkMarketing that it is easier to measure click-through rates and website visits than when offline adverts are used.In addition, Mr Norman said firms will concentrate more on ensuring their websites match their brand quality – with the use of images to be monitored more closely in particular. Small and medium-sized businesses,

Small and medium-sized businesses can improve their IT by investing in virtual private servers and other virtualisation technology, it has been claimed.Writing for PC Pro, IT journalist Jon Honeyball said there are almost "no downsides" to migrating to this technology. Many firms are continuing to persist with legacy technology, he stated, with hard disks that have been "spinning for a decade and are at the very edge of their failure envelope"."Components are overstressed and the build-up of dust and worse inside the chassis has reduced the airflow to a trickle," he commented, referring to existing servers.Mr Honeyball described virtualising a server as "the first step" in any business journey into the modern, digital age.Consultant Manek Dubash recently told ZDNet that in modern times, virtualisation has become a more focused discipline which can be used effectively to tackle both technology and business issues.Businesses should look to only purchase virtual private servers from reputable web hosting firms, it has been claimed.Writing for Ezine Articles, industry commentator Paul Fuelton warned that some firms are not equipped to provide the comprehensive customer support service that growing business users require. He explained how one close friend had a "devastating experience" after purchasing a virtual private server from a US-based provider. When the server became unresponsive one morning, the web hosting provider was unable to provide any guarantees as to when normal service would be resumed, he added. The server was eventually brought back online six hours after the problem was first reported, Mr Fuelton added. He claimed that in selecting a virtual private server, businesses "need to rely on other people's knowledge and experience - there is no other way". "Your own trial and error might simply be too costly of an alternative," Mr Fuelton said.Last month, ITvoir Network's Pooja Vij claimed that virtualised technology can help small firms reduce costs.Virtualisation is not the "shiny new technology they once were, it has been claimed.Writing for ZDNet, IT expert and consultant Manek Dubash said that firms do not view the virtual hosting technology in the same light as they once did.He said that virtualisation had become a more focused discipline which can be used effectively to tackle both technology and business issues – including IT budget constraints. On the other hand, Mr Dubash claimed that the term 'storage virtualisation' was still a "hazy concept".Earlier this year, John Abbot, chief analyst with The 451 Group, said that the main benefit of virtualisation is its ability to separate workloads from the underlying hardware, which can add flexibility to a business's operation. He added that a modern virtual infrastructure can form an effective foundation for automated storage, backup and retention, as well as improving a firm's disaster recovery and continuity plans.

AISO.NET A Truly Green web hosting company,

As more and more web hosting companies are beginning to change their ways and become more ecologically friendly, it’s refreshing to see a company that truly knows what it means to be green. There are plenty of hosting companies that purchase carbon offset credits to balance out what they use in energy but very few who actually use clean energy to power their services and sites. AISO.Net is one such company that knows what it means to be truly green.
Sun
AISO.Net uses one of the best and most abundant sources of energy on this planet solar energy. With two arrays housing 120 company-owned and operated solar panels, the hosting company is able to power both their data center and their office. This makes the company one of the only 100% completely solar powered hosting companies available.
By powering their servers and office with energy produced from the sun, AISO.Net effectively eliminates the amount of harmful emissions standard hosting companies produce. This is the equivalent of planting about 8 acres of reforestation trees each year. The company saves over 34,000 pounds of greenhouse or CO2 emissions each and every year.
Not only does the hosting company harness the power of the sun to produce energy but it also uses solar tubes and windows to bring in natural lighting to its building. Each and every tube (and they utilize at least 7 of them) replaces what would normally be used energy-wise by the equivalent of 300 watts of power produced by an electric lamp used 8 hours a day each weekday. The solar lighting saves over 600 pounds of greenhouse emissions on a yearly basis.
Water
To cool its buildings in true ecological fashion, AISO.Net utilizes evaporative cooling. This process is similar to the feeling one has after coming out of a pool and the wind kicks up a bit – the skin is cooled by the wind. The air conditioning systems that AISO.Net has in place uses this exact same process to eliminate excessive heat in all of its buildings. This process means no refrigerants, 90% less use of electricity and saves over 72,000 pounds of greenhouse emissions yearly.
Another green tactic taken by this company is its use of a green roof. By placing plants and greenery on the roofs of their data center and their office, the web hosting company reduces the temperature of each building by about 20 degrees or more.
Adding into these cooling measures, AISO.Net collects its water from rain. This rainwater in turn is used within their air conditioning system and to water the green roofs during dry seasons. This collection process includes flushing to remove contaminants, storage for over 10,000 gallons of water and both the green roofs and the AC systems are designed to drain water to be reused.
Air
If harnessing sun and water power weren’t enough, AISO.Net also looks to how nature works with regard to latent cooling. Latent cooling is basically the process that, through atmospheric air, transfers heat to a thunderstorm. The company’s AC units evaporate water into air in one chamber and then cools the air in another chamber. The water vapor produced in the exhaust air holds the heat and then can be used to cool the 120 solar panels the company has in place.
AISO.Net’s entire air conditioning system completely eliminates the need for any refrigerants simply by using 100% fresh outdoor air. The total greenhouse emissions saved on a yearly basis is over 72,000 pounds.
Conclusion
Instead of taking the easy route and purchasing offset credits, AISO.Net has taken being a green host to heart. With a combination of clean renewable energy in the forms of solar, water and air, this web hosting company is one of very few that can call itself truly green.

Free web hosting,

Budget hosting or free? This is an age old question. I have seen successful movement upmarket in this dilemma (UK hosting firm 34SP.com discontinued free hosting products and even created a higher resource, higher priced product) and now I am seeing a return to the free hosting model from LimeLabs. Until now the idea of paid versus free hosting was a simple decision between a product that could deliver what most small to medium sized businesses needed (paid) or do without many features or resources (free). The announcement today of a new free hosting product from Lime Labs may change that perception for a number of webmasters.
In the past a free web hosting product meant one of the following scenarios:
You get free web hosting, BUT you have to display ads on your website to defray the costs.
You get free web hosting, BUT the resources allocated are so miniscule that you will invariably run out as soon as you start.
You get free web hosting, BUT you won’t get any technical support whatsoever.
You get free web hosting, BUT you can’t actually load or run the CMS you truly want (probably because its too resource intensive).
The switch on this model is that LimeLabs has launched a new service called LimeDomains. Mark Gorton, Founder of LimeLabs explained how this dovetails into free hosting, ”LimeDomains offers free hosting and free application installation, and we are finding that many people appreciate the great value we are offering.”
So what you might not be aware of just yet is that all LimeDomains accounts come with access to an extensive catalog of
open source web applications ranging from popular blogs such as Wordpress, to full-featured content management systems such as Drupal and Joomla. Users can also upload their own files or transfer their existing websites – such as their Geocities pages – to LimeDomains via a built-in file manager, or any popular FTP client. Most popular web design applications, such as Adobe Dreamweaver, are also supported.
Unlike other free hosting services, there are no strings attached to the free hosting offer on LimeDomains. Users do not have to sign-up for any third party services, or submit themselves to a barrage of solicitations (e-mail, or otherwise), or place mandatory ads on their website. Most importantly, the free accounts are not crippled in any way – and receive the same quality of service, performance and reliability that most other hosting services charge a premium for.
So basically, you get a free web hosting account that seems exactly like a paid account in terms of resources, support and privacy .
Although I’ve not tried the service personally, it sounds like a true breakthrough in free web hosting. I suppose the marketplace will be the ultimate determinant of the validity of this (sort of) new hosting model.

Removes Consumer Empowerment,

Many readers of this blog know that I am against net neutrality. Many also know that I am pro-consumer and when there is an argument between consumers and corporations I will side with the consumer. So how can I be a consumer advocate and be anti net neutrality? Seems mind-boggling doesn’t? It may, but not if you look at the consequences in proportion to the supposed gains.
There is No Shelter Here
First off, there has never been a problem with the internet not being neutral. When I say this the first two statements that come to mind is Comcast slowing down p2p transfers and the second being the Canadian company Telus and its problem with the Telecommunications Workers Union (TWU). Now everyone thinks that net neutrality will solve the Comcast throttling issue… it won’t. One of the clauses the FCC has been championing is to ensure consumers can connect to their choice of legal devices that do not harm the network. Unfortunately for the consumer, p2p services can, and in many cases, greatly harm the integrity of a network especially in rural zones. If it can be proven to ruin the network then it can be throttled. The Telus issue is another matter. During a labor strike of the TWU a site posted pictures of those employees who crossed the picket line and inflammatory comments were made to include a variety of death threats. Telus banned the site to protect the employees that it had threatened with beatings and death. After a bit of arguing and a little grand standing, the owners of the site and Telus came to an agreement, the pictures were removed and Telus unblocked the site.
The problem with net neutrality is that it assumes that the Internet is in trouble and that there is not enough regulation in place to protect consumers, which is false. As many have stated, net neutrality is a solution without a problem. And to solve those problems we already have a number of solutions: class action lawsuits, boycotting, competitive markets, etc.
The Consequences
The consequences of net neutrality are very much real and are a danger to many consumers. Removing tiered Internet access removes a major portion of income for an ISP. That income is normally spent on infrastructure, but if net neutrality is put in place the infrastructure will decrease. Essentially the ultra fast broadband packages subsidize the lowest tiers as well as allow for network expansion. With out it, those who do not have the higher end infrastructure, such as rural communities, will remain with the lower network pipelines.
As a for instance, I live out in the middle of nowhere, very small rural community, but I needed extreme broadband so I could work at home on the weekends. I paid a huge setup fee to get a good sized line as well as a large monthly fee for about a year. However, once residents of the town found out they now have access to the faster speeds they began to pay for it and after two years the overall monthly price went down, in fact I am paying now about 60% of what I was paying two years ago. With net neutrality, sure I wouldn’t have been hosed for a year (plus a wicked setup fee), but the ISP would not have made high speed Internet an option here and today we’d all be on the lowest speed that can be called “broadband.”
Net neutrality calls for all networks to be equal so they won’t fragment the Internet to several network microcosms. Which is all well and good, but if it is truly enforced than no network can advance through better research until all ISP networks advance. Therefore if company A invested $10 million to increase the efficiency of the network it could not implement it until companies B, C, all the way to ZZZ could produce it on their own networks. The net neutralities bills do not offer valid definitions of what makes networks different and because of this it will plateau innovation simply because one company doesn’t want to shell out the research dollars if it needs to ensure that all its competition have the technology before it can be implemented.
The very last problem I have with net neutrality, and by far the most important for me, is it removes consumer empowerment and places it with the government. One thing I have noticed is that people nowadays believe that the corporations control the economy when it is in fact the consumer who has control.
A very intelligent man understood this principle and in 1955 he used this capitalistic consumer principle to ensure public scrutiny on a major social injustice. The man was the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. and he used boycotting to push social change. Companies must conform to what consumers want. If a company sells broadband at $200 a month and no one buys it they will either remove that service or they will reduce the price until it is purchased. If a company prevents access to the a site or service, they will continue to do so until the consumer decides not to buy their services. The surest way to have the fair pricing on goods is for consumers to understand their rights and to enforce these rights on the company. This principle is like a surgeon’s scalpel allowing consumers in a given location to fine tune the offerings of the local companies. When governments step in they cannot fine tune services since it would not be fair on a national level. They cannot say, well ISPs in Nevada can offer their rural customers higher tier broadband for less than the rest of the companies in the nation because they have the infrastructure for it. Instead federal governments have to use blanket statements in a one sized fits all fashion and hope that they don’t screw a large portion of the population. Now some might say well some places have ISP monopolies and this is true. Although in my population 800 town I have three ISP providers I will not assume that their is competition enough in every area for consumers to be choosey and that is where government should step in. We have rules on the books against monopolies and it is that area which government should be spending their time on. About David Dunlap

The leading provider of business-class,

The leading provider of business-class open source collaboration software, announced today an agreement with Nexen Alter Way Hosting, the French leader in open source web hosting to offer hosted e-mail and collaboration. Hosting customers of Nexen Alter Way Hosting will get both Open-Xchange webmail and PIM (Personal Information Management) at no additional charge with an option to move to full groupware, as well as support for mobile devices. Nexen Alter Way Hosting is part of Alter Way and has a sister company, Alter Way Solutions, which is the system integrator unit. Alter Way Solutions has experience with a series of successful on-premise Open-Xchange implementations in the French market and was named for three consecutive years by Open-Xchange as “Best integrator of the year.“ Based on its experience, Alter Way decided to expand its Open-Xchange offerings with a hosted solution provided by Nexen Alter Way Hosting. This gives small- and medium-size business in France the option to select either hosted Open-Xchange delivered as software-as-a-service (SaaS), or a traditional on-premise installation. ”Nexen Alter Way Hosting and Alter Way Solutions are excellent examples of how our partners benefit from the Open-Xchange technology and business model,“ said Rafael Laguna, CEO of Open-Xchange. “Both on-premise and hosted Open-Xchange use the same software code, which gives partners freedom to choose either deployment model. Productivity is enhanced through unique teamwork features, like team view, single-password document sharing, and shared calendars, contacts, tasks and documents. “SaaS is a great business model for system integrators and service providers because it provides an additional source of recurring revenues, along with a tight customer linkage,“ said Christophe Ballihaut, CEO of Nexen Alter Way Hosting. “We are seeing amazing market uptake on our hosted Open-Xchange offering sold as SaaS as we are the first provider in the French market to deliver exciting new features like Social OX for integrating social network data, as well as the OXtender for Business Mobility, which gives small businesses and individuals a cost-effective solution to facilitate work remotely.“ Open-Xchange is installed by more than 3,500 companies and organizations worldwide with the Open-Xchange Hosting Edition used by more than 15 million people worldwide as hosted business-class e-mail, along with personal information management (PIM) and full groupware. The project proposed$1.5B,

The project could create up to 1,000 construction jobs and cost up to $5.2 billion (£3.5 billion) in investment in the region.
Local planning officials have passed along the company's application to the town council, which will meet November 25 to discuss the buildout.
The project's developers are hoping they will receive the final go-ahead to begin construction in mid-2010 for a late 2011 opening.
The data center will span 2.6 million square feet of space at the Peelhouses farm property, which is nearby the Steven's Croft biomass power facility.
Within 5 miles of the site is a wind farm, which the developers hope will provide about half the energy in renewable sources to power the facility.
The developers also plans to reuse waste heat from Lockerbie data centers in other facilities at the site, as well as fresh air "free cooling" throughout the year.
The new business park is projected to span around 195,000 square feet of hi-tech office space, with horticultural research and commercial greenhouses park on location, which will create additional jobs.
The company estimates that the data center itself will generate 50 jobs with an additional 10 jobs for estate management.
According to the master development plan, which can be downloaded
here, the project will comprise of a series of modular one-story data centers that will be integrated into the overall building, and feature green roofs for aesthetics and sustainability.
The data center will be build in phases based on market demand.
According to consulting firm BroadGroup (
www.broad-group.com), which is organizing the event, the two major themes emerging for debate at the 2010 PoweredByCloud conference: the business and technological case for private cloud; and the growth and implications of mobile cloud services. PoweredByCloud will offer industry leaders the opportunity to debate the coming changes, and help them position their organizations to take advantage of them.
"The second conference occurs as [the] cloud shifts from early adopters towards mainstream markets and product packages designed for large enterprises promote outsourced private cloud," commented Tim Jackson, chairman of PoweredbyCloud. "The shift is discernible from a cloud pitched by outsiders, to one promoted by insiders."
The cloud holds profound implications for businesses and governments, however, there still remains issues about privacy and security, government regulation, data location and international competition, as well as the implications of the US Patriot Act and EU Data Directive. These topics and more will be discussed at the Cloud Law summit taking place on February 10, 2010.
"PoweredbyCloud is the selected forum for decision makers from across Europe, and who are likely to be represented in force at the forum. Any company who is evaluating whether to make a commitment to cloud, or serious about talking to the early adopters outside the US already doing so, then the 2010 event is likely to be the best venue to do that."
With more than a quarter of attendees being "C-level" managers, PoweredByCloud promises to be a who's who of leaders in the cloud service provider, enterprise IT, telco, solution supplier, government and regulatory agency, law, investor and professional intermediary sectors, providing an effective forum to network with clients and providers in this fast-moving space.

Online security,

People are getting smart about online security. Today most of them are looking for the padlock icon and www.urmipkpadam5533.blogspot.com prefix in the address bar of their browser before submitting personal information online. An SSL Certificate helps your customers do their online transactions under a secure service. If your Web site doesn''t have an SSL Certificate, visitors may leave before making a purchase or creating an account.Take into consideration that web hosting is a global service. It does not matter what country you are located in; US, UK, Canada, Australia or India. It is good to note that the cost of hosting services in most countries is generally a little more expensive in comparison to the same services in Canada and the United States. Specifically, American web hosts offer a much better value for money than any local hosting. First try to choose a reliable business web hosting provider which is uptime. Hosting uptime refers to the percentage of time the host is accessible via the internet. It is very important your service be uptime (functioning and available for use). It means you can access your account whenever you want to update your web pages, and customers can enter your website whenever they refer to your site address. If your hosting service is not uptime it can be catastrophic! There are many websites which display a couple of companies as the best business web hosting providers and leave people confused without being helpful. To make things even more confusing, some hosting companies are cheating and lying to their customers!Threehosts.com is a reliable website to help you have the best choice. All effort of your powerful,

All effort of your powerful, competent website will go in vain if you are not associated with an efficient Web Hosting Company. Not only it largely affects your web presence but also is an important aspect in reducing your hosting expenses. Fortunately, in this varied and humongous hosting industry, finding a one that caters to all your requirements in a gainful manner is not a great deal of job, provided you are ready to give needed time and thought to the selection process. Given below are the few important factors that you must consider while partnering with any company offering efficient hosting services.
Estimate the web space that your website would require and pick a plan in accordance to it. As for instance if you need around 250MB of space then go for a plan that offers 300Mb, so that you get to maintain enough scope for further growth and expansion.
Similarly, with Bandwidth also, configure first the amount of bandwidth you require and then opt for a plan that offers a little higher than your requirement. For example, if your website uses 10GB bandwidth per month, opt a plan that provides at least 12 GB bandwidth per month. Such an arrangement prevents 'spikes' of over usage, which may cause higher extra costs.
Block buying is another added facility that you can avail within your web hosting services plan. Enquire well about buying block from your web hosting company, so that you can purchase projected extra disk space or bandwidth.
Number of websites is an important issue for all those who have more than one website. Search well and then avail an account with a reliable web hosting company who provides multiple domains hosted on one account. A lot of people opt for this option as it falls much cheaper than having an account per website.
Emails are the backbone of any online business. Emails are the lifeblood of your online business and hence, make sure to receive a sufficient number of email addresses with your own domain name. In fact, it is better to go for a plan that offers unlimited email addresses as it facilitates your other email features like forwarders, and auto responders, etc. In fact, nowadays, almost every web hosting company is offering this service at free of cost, within the chosen hosting plan.
Do not get lured by discount offers at all! There are many inefficient companies providing hosting services available in the market who would like to trap their clients by offering them discount on making advance half-yearly payments. Hence, it is advised to avoid long terms plans until you are complete assured about your chosen service provider. Paying regularly on monthly basis has its own set of benefits. If you encounter any major problem with the hosting, you can any time take the decision of availing the same from another service provider.
Thinking and planning is the lifeblood of any business running on web. Simply maintain a flawless record of present and past web space usage and bandwidth and analyze your future requirements in accordance with that. Similarly, in case of hosting services as well, figure out your growth rate and project future expansions. Keep a good record of past and present bandwidth and web space usage; this will help to project future needs. Web host reseller program is a big benefit for you. If you start your own reseller hosting website, that is a great way for you. You can create a steady income stream for your life. Every customer you host pays a small monthly fee, and add-on services can really increase your bottom line. Web hosting services are in very high demand and therefore any reseller who knows what they are doing can make a bundle quickly without too much trouble. That mean you can get your piece of the pie, however. Create or commission a professional website that outlines your services and makes it easy for potential customers to choose you over another site. However, just like in any other
business, one needs to be cautious and to be very much aware of exactly what they are doing. Make it personal so people can get to know you and see how you'll commit to them as customers. Put your personality into your site design and customers will see you as something special. As with any business large or small, marketing is the key component for success. Take the time to learn and apply good business sense to every aspect of your business. It's worth the effort. Use every avenue available to make your reseller hosting site the go-to destination for customers and information seekers. Optimizing your website for search engine rankings is critical because there are so many competitors. You can also earn commissions from a hosting company, by referring customers to their services - basically through an affiliate plan. Sometimes a commission will take the form of a percentage paid once only, and at others, the reseller will be paid recurring monthly commissions for as long as the customer remains with the host. Usually the reseller needs to be a customer himself if he is to take advantage of such a plan. Some hosting companies even extend their terms to a multi level marketing plan whereby resellers earn money not only for customers they refer directly, but also for the customers of other resellers/affiliates who they recruit into the business. Our very own host offers just such a deal, and it can be very rewarding!A high number of web hosting companies try to outsource their services to resellers as it helps them to extend their business reach without such high costs in respect of marketing and sales and enables them to focus more on the business aspects of their operation. As a reseller, it is down to you just what services you sell - shared, dedicated or co-location web hosting, merchant hosting, store front accounts - the choices are pretty wide ranging. The first and most important thing you need to do is find a reliable web host resellers program. And that host also needs to have a good reseller program. There are not too many around that have this ideal combination but they are there, if you know where to look.

Semi-Dedicated Server Web Hosting,

A provider of Shared, Reseller, Virtual Private Servers and dedicated servers, today introduced Enterprise Linux,Windows Dedicated Servers. The company states that starting at just £129 GBP per month, Enterprise Dedicated Servers will have a setup identical to its existing Shared Hosting Servers. These servers will have the same security settings applied, and they will also be actively monitored similar to the shared hosting servers they currently manage.
Besides the regular backups, each server will also be setup with RAID 1 in order to minimize potential problems and prevent subsequent data loss. It further states that all Enterprise Dedicated Servers are based on Linux or Windows
Platform where each Linux Enterprise Dedicated Server will be pre-installed with WHM control panel, while Windows Enterprise Dedicated Servers will be pre-installed with DotNetPanel control panel.
In order to guarantee the security and performance of these servers, the company has imposed certain security restrictions similar to those on their shared hosting servers.
